Welcome to Madgwick Lodge

We are Mark and Heidi Walton, owner/operators of the family run enterprise, Madgwick Lodge Stud and Endurance training facility in the Upper Murray region of NSW, Australia. The Snowy Mountains are our grand backdrop.

Madgwick Lodge consists of 5 adjacent farms totaling approximately 2500 acres located on the northern side of the Murray River, in the lush Tooma and Maragle valleys. With fertile pastures, permanent water and high rainfall, we use holistic farming principals on our undulating hills to provide our horses the start in life needed to be future champions.

Our aim is to produce world class, Australian bred endurance athletes. Madgwick Lodge currently stands 4 stallions and more than 10 mares,
plus outside horses. We cater for both the domestic and the international markets for leading competitors and breeders.

Madgwick Lodge History

Madgwick Lodge was first established in early 2000 in Armidale, NSW. The high elevation, a lovely township and central location between Brisbane and Sydney provided a great beginning. But as the stud grew, we realized we needed to be somewhere very special.

Our first move was to the Southern Highlands, near the Belanglo State Forest, between Sydney and Canberra. Although we had ample terrain and training opportunities, it still lacked that something unique. Again we relocated, east of Canberra on the Great Diving Range. It had the right altitude, but the weather was extremely harsh, even in a good season.

We embarked on an exhaustive search along the east coast of Australia, until we finally found the hidden valley of Tooma. High rainfall, fertile country and numerous mountain streams that feed the nearby Murray River. With the mighty Snowy Mountains as a grand backdrop, we had finally found it!

Located on the western side of the Snowy Mountains, the sheltered valley of Tooma offered endless training grounds, protection from the harsh weather and the perfect setting to breed future world champions.

In 2008, eight years after the commencement of the stud and endurance enterprise, Madgwick Lodge settled into its special home.
